East Bend.-Mrs. Alice Marler
Smitherman, 79, of East Bend died early yesterday after a brief
illness. She was born in Yadkin County June 7, 1867, daughter of Frank and Betty Marler.
On March 29, 1888 she was married to James A. Smitherman who died December 31, 1945.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. D. M. Stanley of Piot Mountain and Mrs. J. J. Hooper of Tuckaseegee, Jackson County: one son, C. C. Smitherman, Mount Airy, and one brother, Henry E Marler of East Bend.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at East Bend Baptist Church. Rev. C. H. Hutchens and Rev. G. A. Hovis will officiate. Burial will be in the East Bend Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will remain at Burchette and Huff Funeral Home until 1 p.m. Saturday when it will be taken to the home. it will lie in state at the church for one hour preceding the service.
Pallbearers will be Walter, Jo Floyd, Charlie, Hal and Arzie Marler.
