EAST BEND - Mrs. Bertha Pearl
Smitherman, 77, Rt. 4 died Sunday morning at the Forsyth Memorial
Hospital after an extended illness.
She was born in Yadkin County on Aug. 13, 1916 to John Burgess and Alice Jester Hunt. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.
Surviving are her husband, Mr. R.B. Smitherman of the home; two daughters, Polly Crews of Winston- Salem and Marlene Crotts of Marietta, Ga.; two sons, Alan Smitherman of Clemmons and Tom Smitherman of Woodstock, Ga.; five sisters, Polly Speer of Statesville, Kathleen Hodges and Geneva Spillman, both of Winston-Salem, Novella Smitherman and Jay Binkley, both of East Bend; two brothers, John Robert Hunt and David Hunt, both of East Bend; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Huff Fu- neral Home Chapel in East Bend by the Rev. Tim Wilkins and the Rev. Mike Willard. Burial will follow in the Stony Knoll United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
