BOONVILLE
- Mrs. Dorothy Lee Jester Smitherman, 83, of Howards Road, died Friday,
Jan. 6,
2006, at Hoots Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 12, 1922, in Yadkin
County,
to the late Adolpus "Doll" Jones Jester and Annie Caudle. Mrs.
Smitherman was employed by Chatham Manufacturing for 40 years both in
the weave
room and payroll department. She was also a member of Union Grove
Baptist
Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
former
husband, John Evan Smitherman; two brothers, Thomas Warren and Walter
Jones
Jester; and a Bonnie Staley. Surviving are a son, John Denny (Ramona)
Smitherman of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Jack (Frances)
Reece and
Elva Parker; two grandchildren, John Denny Jr. of Brentwood, Tenn. and
Scott T.
Smitherman of Nashville, Tenn.; and five great-grandchildren, William
John,
Alexander Hammond, Grace Elizabeth, Jordon Julia and Parker Jane. The
funeral
service for Mrs. Smitherman will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan.
10, at
Union Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenny Gooden and the Rev. Jack
Gentry
officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will
receive
friends from 7 to 9 this evening, Jan. 9, at Huff Funeral Home in East
Bend.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service hour. The
family
especially wishes to thank you to the staff of Hoots Memorial Hospital
and the
assistance given to Mrs. Smitherman by many nieces and nephews,
especially Suzy
Hoots, Carolyn Jester and Jerry Jester. Huff Funeral Home is serving
the family
of Mrs. Smitherman.
