EAST BEND- Mrs. Edith Hutchens
Smitherman, 90, of East Bend, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 1999 at
the Yadkin Nursing Care Center in Yadkinville.
She was born in Yadkin County on July 31, 1909 to David F. and Permelia Williams Hutchens. Mrs. Smitheman was a life long member of Forbush Friends Meeting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Yancy Smitherman; and a son, Derl Smitherman. Surviving is a son, Hal (Bessie) Smitherman of East Bend; a daughter, Janice (Johnny) Williard of Yadkinville; a daughter- in-law, Anne Smitherman; a sister, Lois Parker of Yadkinville; and grandchildren, Wayne (Debbie) Smitherman, Mark Smitherman, Kevin (Sandra) Smitherman, Shelia (Eddie) Bogler, Adelia Smitherman, and Barry (Patti) Williard; six great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smitherman will be conducted by the Rev. Jake Penley and the Rev. Gary Foster, Thursday, September 9, 1999 at Forbush Friends Meeting at 2:30 p.m. with the body to lie instate from 2:00 p.m. until time for the service.
The family of Mrs. Smitherman will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Huff Funeral Home in East Bend. Memorials may be made to the Forbush Friend Missionary Society, in care of Mary Wooten, 2821 Mill Hill Road, East Bend, N.C. 27018.
