Perryman Smitherman, 81, of Maplesville, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999 at
a local hospital after an extended illness.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999 at the Maplesville Cemetery with Rev. Gene Woodruff officiating and Lawrence Funeral home directing.
Survivors include son Ronald J. Smitherman (Lt. Col. Retired) and daughter-in-law Janice S. Smitherman of Prattville; daughter Patricia S. Godwin and son-in-law Cecil "Butch" Godwin of Selma; grandchildren Paige Smitherman of Vail, Co., Kelly Smitherman of Prattville, Cassie Smitherman of Prattville, Jason H. Godwin of Auburn and Austin R. Godwin of Athens; nephews George M. Smith of Maplesville, Ray W. Latham of Maplesville and Steve T. Latham of Maplesville.
She was preceded in death by an infant son and her husband, Odis L. Smitherman.
Mrs. Smitherman had been a resident of Dunn's Nursing Home since July, 1994. She was a member of Maplesville Baptist Church. Mrs. Smitherman was a dorm director at Jacksonville State University in the early 1970's. After leaving Jacksonville, she was a caregiver for many Selma families for many years.
Active pallbearers are Jason H. Godwin, Austin R. Godwin, George M. Smith, Ray W. Latham, George Denmark and Larry Argo.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Alzheirmer's Treatment and Research Center, 640 Jackson Street, St. Paul, MN 55101.
The family will receive friends at Lawrence Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 11.
