Miss Irene Smitherman, age 28
years, died at a Birmingham hospital last Saturday morning at 1:00
o'clock, following an illness of about three weeks. The body was
brought to Clanton by Spigener and prepared by Spigener Funeral Home.
Services were held Sunday at 2:30 p. m., at Plantersville Baptist
church, Revs. G. G. Williams and J. M. Truett of Clanton and Rev. Nail
of Plantersville of- ficiating; Spigener directing.
Pallbearers were: Dr. J. M. Kimmey of Anniston, Prof. J. A. Peterson of Jemison, Dr. C. O. Lawrence, Senator Earle Thomas and Prof. Luther E. Little of Clanton, Dr. H. M. Nix of Maplesville, Messrs. Terry, O'Neal and Fuller of Plantersville.
Besides her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Smitherman, of Plantersville, surviving are three sisters-Mrs. J. P. Montgomery of Starkville, Miss., Mrs. Eugene Fuller of Tuscaloosa, and Miss Dorothy Smitherman of Plantersville; four brothers Windall and Robert Howard Smitherman, of Plantersville, Emmett of Starkville, Miss., and Woodfin, of Auburn.
Miss Irene Smitherman had been county health nurse here for the past three years, and had endeared herself to a broad circle of friends and acquaintances. She was a member of Clanton Pilot Club, and members of the club acted as flower girls at the funeral.
Coming as she did from a fine and highly respected family, Miss Smitherman had a bright and promising future before her, but by the will of her Maker, death has cut short a life of usefulness and service. Such things are beyond the apprehension of mankind, but the promise is that we will understand it all bye and bye.
