James V. Smitherman Sr., 43, a
yard conductor for the Seaboard Air Line Railroad, died Thursday in a
private hospital. His home was at 795 Antone St., NW.
Mr. Smitherman, born at Seymour, Ala., had lived here 23 years. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church, Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen Lodge No. 720, and LeRoy Duncan Lodge No. 262, F. & A.M.
Survivors include his wife, the former Eileen Burroughs; two daughters, Miss Frances Smitherman and Mrs. Gerald McIntyre, and a son, James V. Smitherman, Jr., all of Atlanta; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.D. Smitherman St., Clinton, S.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Albert Cothran, Clinton, and Mrs. A. L. Harris, Atlanta, and four brothers, Ray Smitherman, Atlanta; Rex Smitherman, Detroit, Mich., and John and M.D. Smitherman Jr., both of Clinton.
Funeral plans will be announced soon by H.M. Patterson & Son.
