NORTH AUGUSTA - Joseph E. Barrs
Jr. entered peacefully into eternal rest on the afternoon of Sunday,
April 28, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at home in North
Augusta, SC. He was 78 years old.
Joe was born in Augusta, GA to Joseph E. Barrs and Doris Smitherman Barrs. He was a graduate of North Augusta High School (1964) and retired from Resolute Forest Products (formerly Augusta Newsprint) after a commendable 47-year career.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Debby; children, Joey (Heather), Kim Barrs Jenkins, Stephen Odom (Joanna), Ryan, and Nick (Brooke); grandchildren, Caden Odom, Sophia Barrs, Brady Jenkins, Jessica Barrs, Jeffrey Barrs, Zach Odom, and Emily Barrs; brothers, Jack, Gregg, Perry, and Roy; sisters, Deborah and Pam. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Beverly Shealy.
Joe will be remembered as more than just a husband, father, brother, friend, grandfather, and uncle. He was the life of the party; the spark that ignited joy in every gathering. Joe's presence was like a burst of fireworks on a dark night, and his sharp wit kept everyone on their toes. With his infectious smile and laughter, he turned ordinary moments into extraor- dinary memories. He will be deeply missed.

A visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5 until 7 o'clock at Posey Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning at 11 o'clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Davis officiat- ing. Interment will follow in Pineview Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Bob Dill, Brian Norris, Roy Ebersole, Gregg Barrs, Brady Jenkins, and Caden Odom.
