EAST BEND-Miss Nancy E.
Smitherman, 91, East Bend seam- stress, died at 9:50 p.m. Wednes- day
at a Winston-Salem rest home. She had been in declining health since
February and se- riously ill three days.
She was born May 23, 1868, at Hamilton, Ind., a daughter of David and Sally Norman Smitherman.
She came to Yadkin County with her family when she was young. Miss Smitherman, with her sister, Miss Millie Smitherman, made almost a life-long career of sewing. They worked in a downstairs front room of their home on the main street of East Bend.
Miss Smitherman continued to sew until January of this year. She was a member of Baltimore Methodist Church.
Surviving besides her sister are a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. today at Baltimore Methodist Church by the Rev. O. E. Merritt, Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Pallbearers, all nephews, will be Hubert Wilhelm, Hobert, Tra- vis, Clyde, Dwight and John H. Smitherman.
