RANDOLPH, Jan. 3.--[Special.]
-Mr. Rolly Smitherman, an old and highly respected citizen of this
county, living about four miles from Randolph, made perhaps a
successful attempt to commit suicide last night by cutting his throat.
Mr. Smitherman has been despondent and melancholy for several months on
account of enfeebled health. He is a brother of Mr. Stephen Smitherman,
who a few months since committed suicide by blowing his brains out with
a shotgun.
