seaborn dalton smitherman
Mr. S. D. Smitherman, well known
citizen of Prattville for twenty-five years, died Sunday night at 9
o'clock. While the deceased had been in bad health for several years,
only within the past several weeks had his condition become serious.
Totally blind for 25 years and suffering with a complication of
ailments, Mr. Smitherman retained a surprising degree of cheerfulness
and his likable smile was always ready for his friends and
acquaintances.
Funeral services were held from the home at four o'clock Monday afternoon with the Rev. Joseph Avery officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery with Griffin in charge.
The deceased is survived by his widow, who was Miss Alice Collum before her marriage; four sons, Lima, Dalton and Gordon, Prattville, and John, of Columbus; four daughters, Mrs. Lois Hunt and Miss Willie Dean Smitherman, of Prattville; Mrs. Lessie Harper and Mrs. Gladys Holley, of Birmingham, and two brothers, D. M., of Crestview, Fla., and D. L., of Birming- ham.
