Steven Scott Smitherman ("Steve"), 59, of Ashland, VA, passed away unexpectedly at home on October 31, 2024, after a courageous battle with Neurosarcoidosis/Sarcoidosis.

Born July 15, 1965, in Richmond, VA, Steve was a devoted father, son, and brother, known for his caring nature and dedication to helping others. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

If Steve's legacy could be summed up by one phrase, it would be "Love Thy Neighbor."

Steve is survived by his son Christopher Scott Smitherman and his son-in-law Matthew Regan of California; his mother, Mary Louise Smitherman of Florida; his brother, David Jeffrey Smitherman and his husband, Ted; his brother, Richard Eugene Smitherman and his wife, Winona; nieces and nephews, Kacy Shea Drake, Richard Tucker Smitherman, and Alyssa Jade Smitherman all of Virginia. In addition, he is survived by his ex-wife, Alta Mabie Smitherman.

A memorial will be held at the Smitherman residence on December 1st, 2024, from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. at 331 New St., Ashland, VA 23005.
