William Hughie Smitherman was
born in Bibb County, Ala., .Dec. 16, 1875. He moved to Killen, Ala.,
where he spent his childhood days.
In 1879 he was united in marriage to Sarah Chestena Belew, to this union was born twelve children. Eleven still survive.
He departed this life Sept. 27, 1941, at his home near Center Star, Ala.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. C. Killen, assisted by W. S. and Geo. Kelley, at the Hickory Flat Church. Interment followed in the adjoining cemetery, with Belew and Davis in charge.
Surviving are his wife, Chestena Smitherman, Killen; and eleven children, Mrs. Vernon Snoddy, Rogersville; Mrs. Jessie McGee. Birmingham, Ala.; John and Percy Smitherman, Florence; William Smitherman, of Wilsonville; Bessie, Telia, Lillie, Ben, Tessie and Henry, of Killen. One sister, Mrs. Emma Peeden, of Killen; and two brothers, Edd and Phil Smitherman, of Texas.
