william joseph smitherman
William Joseph (Bill) born July 26, 1926 in Houston, TX; died June 6, 1988 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born the third child of Otto and Blanche Johnson Smitherman.
He spent his childhood in Ft. Worth, TX; graduating from Laneri H.S.; he served time in the Navy in WWII; he graduated from Texas Tech University in 1949 with a Petroleum Geology degree. He served 17 months with the Navy during the Korean War. He spent his professional life working as a Geologist in West Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. He is a member of AAPG, AIPG and OKC Petroleum Geologist Association.
He married Jane Ellen Wallace on July 26, 1952. To this union 5 children were born, Rex, Sudie, Deirdre, Jason and Quinten.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Ellen of the home; Rex Lane and Paula Smitherman of OKC, Steve and Sudie Marie Johnson of Tuttle, Randy and Deirdre Nixon, Jason Neal Smitherman, Quinten Roy Smitherman, all of OKC; 2 sisters, Doriece Dryer of Houston, TX, Elizabeth Ann Phillips of Cypress, CA ; brother, William Anthony Smitherman of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Carrie and Sarah Smitherman, Janie and Steven Johnson; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Guardian West Chapel. Interment in Chapel Hill Cemetery.
