Allen Johnson smitherman

Our hearts were saddened Saturday, January 6, 1934, when God saw with his all seeing eye, reason for bearing away to His home on high, our friend, Mr. Allen Smitherman. Mr. Smitherman was taken suddenly ill at Maplesville. All that skillful hands could do was done in an effort to save him, but it wasn't God's will for him to stay any longer and late Saturday afternoon He called him to "come, rest higher." It being God's will we would not have it otherwise, remembering Jesus, when in Genthsemine said, "not my will but thine be done."

Mr. Smitherman was born December 22, 1878 at Randolph. He joined Randolph Baptist Church 24 years ago. Due to his congeniality and ever ready to lend a helping hand to others, Mr. Smitherman had a host of friends, who are grieved at his departure. Bro. Cornett of Wilton, a life long friend of the deceased conducted funeral services at Shady Grove Church.
Burial by Jeter of Montevallo, at Shady Grove Cemetery, Randolph, Monday, January 8, 1934.

Pallbearers were, Fred Pruett, Frank Adams, O. T. Gay, Buck Thompson, Forest Crosby and Gene Huston.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Allen Smitherman, three sons and three daughters, Mr. A. P. Smitherman, J. D. Smitherman, James E. Smitherman, Mrs. Sam Lindsey and Linnie Ree Smitherman of Wilton and Mrs. Raymond Hayes of Six Mile and four grandchldren.
Our hearts go out to the bereaved family in this darkest hour of ber- eavement. May God, who alone can bind up broken hearts comfort and sustain the loved ones in this hour of grief and loneliness.
