Mrs. Callie Smitherman, 85, of
Huntsville and a former resident: of Houston County, died Wednesday,
Sept. 17, in Huntsville of a sudden illness.
Funeral services were held at the Ivie Baptist Church near Kennard at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, with the Rev. A. S. Higginbotham of Crockett officiating. Interment was in the Ivie Cemetery, with Roland Goodson, Dan Gates, O'Conor Gates, John C. Gates, Perry Page, and Oneil Goodson as pallbearers.
Mrs. Smitherman, who was a member of the Methodist Church, was born on Nov. 25, 1872, in Houston County, and had lived in the county all of her life until about 10 years ago when she moved to Huntsville.
She is survived by two sons, Jap of Kannard, and Robert of Abi- lene; six daughters, Lillie Page and Dollie Goodson of Kennard, Susanne Gates of Conroe, Caroline Gates of Huntsville, Augustine Bullock of Tabor City, North Carolina, and Shermie Davis of Baton Rouge, La.; a sister, Mrs. Katy Hennis of Houston; 23 grandchil- dren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Callaway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
