Robert Lee Smitherman, age 55,
of 335 N. Bridge Street in Jonesville, NC, passed away Tuesday morning
at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin after a brief illness.
He was born in Forsyth County and was a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesville where he was a trustee of the church. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the 30th Division where he received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and the Silver Star. He was an employee of Chatham Mfg. Co. in Elkin.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Davis Feinster Smitherman of the home, three daughters, Mrs. Bobbie Reinhardt of Hamptonville, Rt. 3, Miss Judith Ann Smitherman of the home, Mrs. Trudy Griffin of Elkin, his stepmother, Mrs. J.A. Smitherman of Elkin and five sisters, Mrs. Opal Mabe of Phoenix, Arizona, Mrs. Evelyn Sparks, Mrs. Dorothy Nelson, Mrs. Joe Dawson, all of Winston Salem, Mrs. Robert Gesteland of Evanston, Illinois, one brother, Wesley Smitherman of Clemmons.
Funeral will be at 2:00 Wednesday afternoon at First Baptist Church, Jonesville with Reverend Ray Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Forsyth Memorial Park. The body is at Warren-Miller Johnson Funeral Home in Elkin.
