Ross G. Smitherman, Desert Inn food and beverage manager who died here Sunday at age 57, will be buried Thursday in Mobile, Ala.
Mr. Smitherman, of 8 Paseo Redondo, was a native of Mobile who came to Tucson in 1960 to serve as public relations director for Greyhound Parks.
A former public relations director for the Tucson Turf Club, Mr. Smitherman leased the Spanish Trail Motel and Supper Club for 18 months and introduced Las Vegas-type entertainment there.
For one year, Mr. Smitherman was KOLD-TV's weatherman five nights a week and read, the news on Sunday nights.
An active member of the Tucson Wildcat Club, Mr. Smitherman was a sports broadcaster for WALA radio-station in Mobile for 23 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; two sisters, Miss Evelyn Smitherman and Mrs. William Tunnell, both of Alabama; two brothers, Dennis and Sherad, both of Alabama; three nieces and four nephews.
