Mrs. Stella Mae Lakey Smitherman, 87, of Rt. 2, East Bend, died at 7 p.m. Saturday at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Baltimore United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert E. Huffman. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. to lie in state 30 minutes before the services.
Mrs. Smitherman was born in Yadkin County, the daughter of A. R. and Plutina Rebecca Poindexter Lakey. She was a lifelong member of Baltimore United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Dalt M. Smitherman, died Nov. 23, 1973. One daughter, Mrs. Virginia S. Poindexter, and one son, Charles Ray Smitherman, preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter. Mrs. Betty S. Jones of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; three sons, Dalton L. Smitherman of Santa Rita, Mont., Alvis Abraham Smitherman of Pauma Valley, Cal., and Thomas D. Smitherman of Greensboro; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grand- children. The family will receive friends at Mackie-Gentry Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
