EAST BEND - Funeral services for Dallas A. Smitherman, 39, formerly of East Bend, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at East Bend Methodist Church The Rev. P. H. Hagar and the Rev. C. H. Hutchins will be in charge. Burial will be in East Bend Frienda Cemetery.

Mr. Smitherman died Wednesday night in St. Louis, Mo.

Pallbearers will be W. C. Joy- ner, W. W. Martin, J. D. Coram, P. B. Hutchins, Ed Sears and C. B. Huff Jr.

Surivving are his wife, Mrs. Ruby Smitherman of St. Louis: his mother, Mrs. C. N. Smitherman of East Bend, four brothers, W. B. Smitherman of New Castle, Ind., Arthur Smitherman of Pinnacle, Guy V. Smitherman of East Bend and Carl Junior Smitherman of Winston-Salem; five sisters, Mrs. R. S. Joyner of Tobaccoville. Mrs. Nelson Dinkins of Yadkinville, Route 2, Mrs. V. V. Baker of Fall Church, Va., Mrs. C. S. Key of Fall Church, Va., and Mrs. Marvin Thompson of East Bend; and the paternal grandmother, Mrs. T. A Smitherman of East Bend.

The body of Dallas Smitherman, 39 years old, was discovered last night on the floor of the bedroom of his home, 3715A North Broadway.  There was a gunshot wound in the left side of his chest and a shotgun lying beside the body.

Smitherman's wife, Ruby, said he had been drinking for several days and had threatened to take his life.  He left her in the kitchen and walked into the bedroom, she said, and then she heard the blast of the shotgun.
