The funeral of J. D. Speer, 88,
Confederate veteran and former resident of Winston-Salem, who passed
away Friday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sam Welch, at
High Point, will be held at the old family burying ground at East Bend,
this afternoon at 2 o'clock.
Mr. Speer resided in Winston- Salem for 17 years, leaving here two years ago to make his home with his daughters. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Sam Welch, of High Point: Mrs. C. W. Smitherman, of East Bend, and Mrs. J. W. Whitaker, of this city: and one sister, Mrs. Mary Jane Creed, of this city.
